This chart shows the value of US equities held by foreign entities. It’s up to over $12 trillion:

Here’s a long-term chart of net international investment position as a percentage of GDP:

Democratic Senator Joe Manchin on Monday outlined possible changes to President Joe Biden’s mammoth $2 trillion economic agenda that might draw his support, while lashing out out at White House staff and fellow Democrats for trying to bully him.
Manchin said that he would only support a $1.75 trillion bill that truly overhauls the U.S. tax code to make it fairer and that lowers the cost of a broader array of prescription drugs than the current bill.
Manchin also said that he still wants work requirements for benefits such as expanded child tax credits as well as means-testing so that those making more than $200,000 annually aren’t eligible. He also wants an income cutoff for tax credits for the purchase of electric vehicles. Such changes have repeatedly been rejected by progressives in the party.
Manchin’s vision for the child tax credit is at odds with Biden’s pledge to not raise taxes on those earning less than $400,000. Manchin suggested scaling back the tax benefit for those earning between $200,000 and $400,000. He said he didn’t believe that parents who didn’t earn any income should be able to get the credit, a revision that would reverse a change Democrats made to the benefit earlier this year.

Businesses have been paying out more cash to their employees too, with total compensation up 12% in the last quarter from a year earlier.

Тhe White House said the Department of Energy will release 50 million barrels of oil held in U.S. reserves — 18 million of which have already been congressionally approved for sale.
The additional 32 million barrels will be intended for U.S. consumers to alleviate increased demand.

the inherent flaw of having the global reserve currency, in a theme that goes back to economist Robert Triffin from over half a century ago, is that in order to maintain the global reserve currency, the country must supply the world with its currency via structural deficits in one form or another.

In 2008-09, when the Fed started quantitative easing, I thought that inflation would take off. I was wrong. Instead, velocity - the rate at which money turns over per year - declined, taking away its inflationary sting. Velocity still is falling. https://t.co/tFaXSaCKqS

Oct. 5th, 2021 03:48 pmThe world is living through the first major energy crisis of the clean-power transition. It won’t be the last... In the throes of fundamental change, the world’s energy system has become strikingly more fragile and easier to shock.
Take the turmoil in Europe. After a colder-than-normal winter depleted natural gas inventories, gas and electricity prices soared as demand from rebounding economies surged too fast for supplies to match. ... But now, the U.K. and Europe rely on a very different mix of energy sources. Coal has been cut back drastically, replaced in many instances by cleaner-burning gas. But surging global demand this year has left gas supplies scarce. At the same time, two other sources of power -- wind and water -- have had unusually low output, thanks to unexpectedly slower wind speeds and low rainfall in areas including Norway.
In other words: A strained global gas market triggered Europe’s record-setting spike for electricity prices -- and the transition amplified it.

Oil and gas were old news, "never going above $70" according to some due to rising EV market share. Now Europe is scrambling for gas. Oil prices remain near multi-year highs.https://t.co/j6UCo07hpC https://t.co/5diJOG7GBn
When Pelosi closes the government, the Washington Monument and Mount Rushmore — the Republicans should point out that the Democrats, by themselves, can fix it and then just say no to demands that they help.
The Democrats can fix all of that. They run everything. They broke it, they bought it. We aren’t helping them tax and spend us into the fiscal abyss.
