Интересно, что я из её первых 14 пунктов согласен с 13.5 но желания голосовать за демократов от этого почему-то не прибавляется.

No, not everyone. The progress does not work like that. When we stopped using whale oil, a lot of whalers lost their jobs. Thankfully, we do not need to hunt whales for oil any more.

Date: 2020-10-12 04:03 pm (UTC)The coal miners are out of work not because of China but because burning coal is now more expensive (and much dirtier) than building wind generators. Will they all find jobs as wind or solar installers? I doubt it, sadly.

Date: 2020-10-12 04:16 pm (UTC)I am sorry but you do not know what you are talking about. The most advanced modern car manufacturer is Tesla, which is an American company. They have massive factories in the US. The problem is that most of the jobs are being replaced by robots. You need a lot of engineers and programmers and not so many line workers.
I am talking about China because the benefits of the (somewhat) free market are the most obvious there. But even here we had unemployment under 4% about a year ago. The quality of life in the USA is far better than in the 70s-80s, although the difference is not as drastic as in China, of course.

Nationally, financial analyst firm Lazard found in December 2016 unsubsidized wind projects costing between $32 and $62 per megawatt-hour while coal cost between $57 and $148 per megawatt-hour.

Date: 2020-10-12 07:03 pm (UTC)> No, *we* don't benefit other than getting cheap shit from China.
Yes, we do. Anyone can afford a cell phone, for example, or computer. This is a major change for the better.
> Тем не менее огромный слой населения больше не имеет доступа к высоко- или даже среднеоплачиваемым работам.
I don't think Americans want to make cheap t-shirts for or assemble Iphones. The plush unionized auto industry jobs are indeed disappearing. They are not coming back no matter what. Most of them are being replaced by robots in any case.
We need to stop fighting these 19th century battles.
