Nato should examine how it can power tanks and jets with alternative energy, such as solar panels, to reduce its carbon emissions, the alliance’s secretary general said.

Reducing reliance on fossil fuels would also make troops less vulnerable to attack because they would not have to rely on long supply lines getting fuel to the front line, Jens Stoltenberg said.

Mr Stoltenberg said putting solar panels on tanks would be good for the environment and would also increase the resilience of troops on military operations.

“We know that one of the vulnerabilities in any military operation is the supply of fossil fuels along vulnerable supply lines … so if we can make us less dependent on that we are reducing emissions, but at the same time increasing military effectiveness.”

Можно наверное это истолковать так что он напрямую не предложил устанавливать солнечные панели на танки. И то спасибо! Тем не менее, он сделал не менее идиотское заявление:
“We all have a responsibility to do more to combat climate change,” he continued, adding that NATO was well aware of the need to reach net zero.

Это не так уж глупо - в стоящих на месте танках есть неслабая потребность в электричестве, а гонять танковый мотор вхолостую крайне неприятно и дорого. APU тоже не подарок - занимает место, плюс шум и тепло.

И тут представим себе боевые самолёты, летящие курощать понятно какого супостата над Арктикой в декабре-январе. На солнечных батареях. Или танки на солнечных батареях в Техасе буквально недели три назад.

Дебил, искренне думающий, что танку нужны солнечные батареи, не может стать генсеком НАТО. Слишком много желающих занять эту должность.

Если психически здоровый человек вдруг заявляет, что 2 х 2 = 5, то вместо "дебилы, б-дь!" лучше бы спросить: какие важные причины заставляют его так позориться?

Putting solar panels on tanks is absurd, of course. The area is too small for it to be useful. I am not sure that is what he was saggesting though.
On the other hand a mobile solar power plant seems like a really good idea. That could reduce their supply line needs, at least in sunny places.

Он не говорил это. Точка. Поиск в гугле указывает, что первоисточник "новости" буквально единственный.

Далее :
Выделенное вами болдом "NATO was well aware of the need to reach net zero." он тоже не говорил.
Буквально он сказал:
Climate change affects our security.
And makes it harder for our military forces to keep us safe.
Therefore, we all have a responsibility to do more to combat climate change.
Which is why we are looking at how NATO can play our part in reaching Net Zero.
