Скажите пожалуйста, это я один такая старая зануда или ещё кого-то дико раздражает когда слово "ask" используется как существительное вместо request?

Я, по-моему, как раз "ask", как существительное, встречал в неформальной речи.

И, по-моему, "an ask" и "a request" имеет несколько разное значение, как и глаголы "to ask" и "to request".

Трудно сказать. Значения слов и выражений в идеале понимаются из "канонического" употребления или продвинутыми носителями языка (скажем, писателями) или в крайнем случае в виде живой народной речи. В данном случае, ничего такого нет. Я ни разу не встречал такого употребления ни в литературе, ни в живом общении со знакомыми американцами, ни даже в журналистике или в блогосфере.

Мое личное восприятие -- ask мягче, чем request. Request предполагает, что тот, кто его делает, находится in the position of power, хоть в каком-то смысле, мне кажется. Но, конечно, нужно спрашивать специалистов.

Возможно. Причем в оффисной обстановке этот ask нередко используется именно начальством, чтобы не употреблять более сильных выражений. Такой вот тип лицемерия.
