According to data from the Trancik Lab at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, a Tesla Model S P100D saloon driven in the US midwest produces 226 grammes of carbon dioxide (or equivalent) per kilometre over its lifecycle — a significant reduction to the 385g for a luxury 7-series BMW. But the [internal combustion engine Mitsubishi] Mirage emits even less, at just 192g.

The MIT data substantiate a study from the Norwegian University of Science and Technology last year: “Larger electric vehicles can have higher lifecycle greenhouse gas emissions than smaller conventional vehicles." [Duh!]

As things stand, a small car like the Mirage could be illegal to drive in cities across Europe, the UK and China by 2030, as incoming bans on combustion engine cars will pay no attention to fuel economy or efficiency of production.

Личный автотранспорт вообще надо сильно ограничить, вплоть до полного запрета, например, в крупных городах, и желательно не дожидаясь 2030 года. Это намного лучше, чем разбираться, у кого там больше lifecycle greenhouse gas emissions, а у кого меньше.

да отменить на хрен вообще личный транспорт! Че они из своих сабербов - на велосипеде не доедут? А если не доедут, значит они там и не нужны.

И хорошо бы еще и дома личные отменить, это ж сколько газа на обогрев тратится. Вот раньше были работные дома при заводах, и ничо, никто не жужжал, вставали по гудку и вперед на работу.

Подобные наезды решаются возможностью покупки стопроцентно зеленого лекстричества для собственников электрокаров за довольно небольшую надбавку к цене. После этого владелец Теслы может ехать на свободу с чистой совестью и законной гордостью.

It's a bit ridiculous to compare Model S and Mirage. I am sure a motorcycle is even greener, but so what?
