Вчера JD Vance обогатил юридическую и конституционную науку, пояснив главному судье Робертсу, что тот неправильно понимает свои обязанности. Конкретно, Робертс сказал:

“The judiciary is a coequal branch of government, separate from the others with the authority to interpret the Constitution as law, and strike down, obviously, acts of Congress or acts of the president”

Но молодое дарование поставило старого козла на место:

“I thought that was a profoundly wrong sentiment. That’s one half of his job, the other half of his job is to check the excesses of his own branch. And you cannot have a country where the American people keep on electing immigration enforcement and the courts tell the American people they’re not allowed to have what they voted for

Разногласия возникли оттого, что 7 из 9 судей ВС, включая всех его назначенцев, проголосовали против Трампа по вопросу о депортации без суда и следствия.

The Supreme Court on Friday blocked President Donald Trump from moving forward with deportations under the 1798 Alien Enemies Act for a group of immigrants in northern Texas, siding with Venezuelans who feared they were poised for imminent removal under the sweeping wartime authority.

Не умел он тогда правильно подбирать людей. Зато теперь научился.

What kind of better life can you imagine if you're a illegal for life, and so are your children and probably grandchildren as well?

Here's some evidence for you:

Undocumented migrants birthed up to 250,000 children in 2023.
https://www.upi.com/Top_News/US/2025/01/25/undocumented-migrant-mothers-250000-births/4411737838281/

In 2023, the overall total fertility rate (TFR) in the United States, the overall average number of children a woman will have in her lifetime given current trends, was 1.8 children, 2.19 for immigrants and 1.73 for the U.S.-born.

250k births is a bit more than 5% of the total births. Not negligible but hardly a huge issue.

I am not sure what to make of your second point -- immigrants tend to have more children in general, whether undocumented or not. That's not a bad thing, without them the population would be falling, just look at the situation in Korea, Japan, much of Europe, etc.

I was rebutting your previous point:

> I feel most illegals just want a better life (not unlike us) and are not thinking of having children here so much.

You feel wrong. They do think about it and they make a lot of children which we have to pay for.

I disagree. A lot of them are escaping terrible life conditions, gangs and other violence. There are people who come specifically to have children in the US but I think it is a small minority and many of them are rich in any case.

Either way, these children mostly become productive members of society.

You cannot disagree with facts. They do make a lot of children. And it is a burden for society.

All of this are your subjective opinions not based on any quantifiable statistics.

There is no contradiction between desire to escape your country and plans to have children. I know b/c I was one of those people. If I could escape illegally I'd do that too.

They come not just to have children. They use children as an anchor that strongly reduces their chances to be deported. Understandably. This doesn't contradict anything. I'd do the same.

Why is it a burden for society?

I was going to ask the same.

Schools, health services, housing and the rest of the infrastructure.

By this logic any kid is a burden to society as they need schools, health services and the rest of the infrastructure.

That's right. And this burden is carried by tax payers.

Even illegal immigrants pay taxes.

Some taxes.

Well total contribution to economy is about $25B per year while total spending by different layers of government is ~$180B. Google " the cost of the illegal immigration"

By this logic all public schools should be closed as there is no contribution from them to economy and they cost quite a lot.

From: [identity profile] v s (from livejournal.com)
Do you understand how the public schools are funded? Primarily from the local taxes and if you are in the country illegally then you're just freeloading

Date: 2025-05-25 04:38 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] ny-quant.livejournal.com
Actually illegals indirectly pay local RE taxes via their rents. But it's not enough.

Date: 2025-05-25 04:37 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] ny-quant.livejournal.com
Society (parents, taxpayers) decided to cover the costs for whatever reason. They didn't mean to cover the freeloaders.

> There is no contradiction between desire to escape your country and plans to have children.

Certainly. But when you want to escape, at least as a young person, children are a very secondary consideration.

It is all together. What kind of life do you want to have? Like most people: family, children, safe and not poor.

How do you get to that goal from your shithole? Go to America!

How will you manage not to get deported? The same way millions of you compadres did it before: lie low and make children, may be not right away.

Until you find a loophole or some kind of pardon. Meanwhile, tell all cousins and their extended families to come over. Rinse and repeat.

You are not wrong but I am sympathetic to all of that personally and I don't think it is bad for the country, as long as these people pay taxes and do not commit crimes.

From: [identity profile] ny-quant.livejournal.com
I may be sympathetic on an individual level but this mass migration is totally out of control. In some way it is good for the country, in other ways it is bad. I don't know how to net it out but clearly the majority feels it is rather bad and I am leaning the same way.
