well, my immigrant or emigrant who cares tenure 0 is more than twice yours. which does not give me more than a little more mandate to trash you for trashing sessions...
when did you move to teh south, to al? and where? if you don't mind.
patriot act and phone tapping leave me indifferent. i am not into personal freedoms of that sort. those who listen already listen. it is all a joke. and some of us have nothing to hide. i don't. do you? i don't even have a married lover. do you? ;-)
re same sex marriage - well, yes, bad, but he IS a evangelical, what do you want. gotta understand that he is a backwards but a generally decent person. not an asshole. and there are SO MANY. Bentley - what do you think of him, eh? Bell? eh? eh?
> and some of us have nothing to hide. i don't. do you?
That's not the point.
The point is that nobody has the right to put parts of the Constitution on hold. And we do have a right to "be secure in our persons, houses, papers, and effects, against unreasonable searches and seizures". And I'm not willing to let go of that just because somebody is too lazy to do some real police work.
> re same sex marriage - well, yes, bad,
So I need not explain my disdain for that character any further.
> he IS a evangelical
Yes he is an evangelical; just one more reason not to like him...
> Bentley - what do you think of him, eh?
Bentley is a self-righteous hypocrite. He campaigned on being a "real Christian" and yeah, well, that was so Christian of him to cheat on his own wife while on taxpayers' dime.
Having said that, he did do some good things for the manufacturing in our state.
And yeah, other Alabama politicians don't really have a stellar record either. I think at least half of them have been involved in litigation regarding some corruption charges, and a few even landed in jail (like our former governor Siegelman).
having seen this ocuntry evolve from mid70s to now is a privilege and a gift. so my 43 years are .. a little longer and more ebuchi than your 20. sorry. true if this were thailand, too.
Birmingham is pretty progressive, no? the uni, etc.
as to nothing to hide - in a way, you are right. besides, someone needs to show me that extra surveillance actually prevented terror acts. but if they do show me that - you are wrong.
re same sex marriage we are on the same page, so let's just file it. and people do get married all over the South, anyway.
listen dear. i don't mean it badly, i am prolly older than you by the same 23 years. so listen dear.
this country - the south anyway - was built by evangelicals, the rest by puritans, quackers, lutherans, methodists. so relax and enjoy the fruits of their labor. incl. sessions.
Bentley is an asshole. we agreed there. recently he climed he is the best governor AL ever had. ahahah, said the disgusted electorate. but.. let him. he has been humiliated and made notorious not for what he had done for the state but for teh gore and corruption. he goes down withna bang he deserves...
as to corruption, AL is not as bad as SC< VA, and of course nobody can top IL, NY, MA...
"FBI agents canât point to any major terrorism cases theyâve cracked thanks to the key snooping powers in the Patriot Act, the Justice Departmentâs inspector general said in a report Thursday that could complicate efforts to keep key parts of the law operating."
exactly my point. two hours of driving. i am majorly spoiled, i am.. now paying for it.
used to live in the foothills of Wasatch range. hike from home anywhere... and used to have a lakehouse in the mountains on a lake, on foot to an obscure state park connected to Sunapee by trails..
sorry, i was just curious about you. personally, i have no "off-topic" rules in my blog, and rely on the host to tell me if i am flooding him with irrelevant info, and then i stop. come to think of it, i would not return to a blog where i was censored for an off-topic. i find such blogs unworthy of my presence. :-)
sometimes i do ask someone to shut up (just had) because he is a nudnik equal to me, and our badminton was becoming toxically boring.
tell me just one thing if you don't mind - 20 years in the South, do you feel a part of it or a stranger? i am told that newcomers of any race, yankees especially, do not ever become welcome, and what little i read of southern literature tells me the same.
i don't need a welcoming party, we are antisocial to a degree, but i am used to feeling at home basically anywhere in teh US. in the South, I do not. exceopt maybe North Carolina, the least southern of southern states. i don't mean Florida.
so, if you don't mind - do you feel you have grown into being "them" and "they" embraced you? i find "them" insular in the extreme I had not seen yet, and I lived or/and have family in the East, NE, Wild West, Kali, Montana, Oregon, etc, etc.
To me, the South is home. And why wouldn't it be? I moved here when I was 19; so I pretty much grew up here, got my degrees from UAB, got married here, had kids here. I've been up North and out West, but I didn't really ever feel like I wanted to stay.
Are there some things that irritate me about the South? Of course. But not enough to make me want to move.
I like the South, I like Southern culture, people, and food. Wish I could live in an antebellum-style house! Perhaps when I decide to build my next home ;) I may not like the Bham area... even though it's undergoing a fairly active gentrification, it's still a bit dumpy. If I ever do move, I'd consider moving to Huntsville. I think Southerners in general are pretty decent people, very friendly. Especially older black ladies and gentlemen.
As far as being "them", I'm not sure how to answer that question. I've been a non-conformist all my life. I just hang out with other weirdos (and I don't mean other immigrants) and we get along just fine.
