For the first time on record, the Northwest Pacific did not record a single hurricane-strength typhoon in August. In records that go back to 1945, databases of both the Joint Typhoon Warning Center (JTWC) and the Japan Meteorological Agency (JMA) before this year had never recorded an August without at least one category 1 or stronger typhoon. This is a remarkable occurrence for the Northwest Pacific, which, on average, sees about 40% of all global tropical cyclone activity.

Но это наверное не настолько интересно чтобы об этом писать в газетах.

Чтоб не получился просто перепост, добавлю пару придирок.

I live among wildfires in California, which are very unpleasant. Suppose, for the sake of argument, that the increase in wildfires is entirely due to carbon-caused climate change. But even if the U.S. adopts all the recommendations of the IPCC, or the Green New Deal itself, we will only contain the further rise of temperature. The pre-industrial climate will still not return in our great-great-great-grandchildren’s lifetime.

На это можно было бы возразить, что без Green New Deal будет ещё хуже и жить в СА станет вообще невозможно.

A carbon tax is a win-win. Many climate advocates disparage the carbon tax, on the view that people will not reduce energy consumption and carbon emissions when the price goes up. If so, great! A bankrupt government can raise a lot of money, and reduce other heavily damaging taxes. If people drastically reduce carbon emissions to avoid a small tax, the government doesn’t earn much money. Great! We save the planet at low cost.

Во-первых, наше правительство не может обанкротиться (см. ММТ) потому что полностью контролирует печатный станок, и он как экономист мог бы об этом знать. (Хотя европейские могут.) Во-вторых, наше правительство может собрать любое количество денег через carbon tax (или ещё как) и успешно все эти деньги прогадить без особой пользы для общества. Повышение цен на горючее через carbon tax особенно сильно ударит по бедным и негативно отразится на экономике.

Вместо carbon tax нужен carbon tax-and-dividend approach. Т.е. чтобы все собранные деньги отдавались гражданам поровну. Таким образом, те кто тратит мало энергии будут получать чеки на большие суммы чем их carbon tax, а большие потребители наоборот. Таким образом у всех будет incentive тратить меньше энергии и бедные не будут наказаны за "грехи" богатых. Говорят, нечто подобное учредил в Канаде тов. Трюдо, но я не проверял.
