Чисто медстатистически, вероятность того, что произвольный семидесятидевятилетка проживёт ещё два с лишним года, меньше ста процентов.

Но если этого не случится, с вероятностью ненамного меньше 100%, то ты политический труп с вероятностью 100%. И даже если побудешь какое-то время президентом тоже. А так - пристроят куда-нибудь на теплое место и будешь получать дивиденды, лекции читать за 6-значные гонорары, и жизнь пойдет на лад.

Если побыть какое-то время первой в истории женщиной-президентом США, то внимание всех женских вузов страны — да и некоторых других стран тоже — гарантировано до конца жизни, с аналогичными лекциями за аналогичные гонорары. А так о чём читать лекции? "Как мне сделали предложение, от которого было невозможно отказаться?"

да, я тоже не могу себе представить, чтобы она согласилась, пока у нее есть хоть какой-то шанс стать президентом
в том числе, и из-за "лекции потом читать за 6-значные гонорары"
какой вариант я считаю немножко более вероятным, это если Байден согласится уйти в оставку при условии, что она возмет в ВП Ньюсома, и сама дальше баллотироваться не будет (а обещание она потом может и нарушить, кстати, тем более, что оно секретное)

Да, это более вероятно. Камала даже если и будет пытаться баллотироваться, вылетит на праймериз или каких-нибудь внутрипартийных голосованиях очень быстро, потому что ничего из себя не представляет.

Насчёт шестизначных лекций. Разве это не гонорары за уже оказанные favours? А если не было favours, то и лекций не будет.

The dems just had a historically great midterm election for the party in power, and they achieved that result during historically high inflation.

Trump is expected to announce tomorrow that he is running again, which will throw the Republicans into further disarray.

And the reaction to that should be... quick, let's replace the president with someone who the Americans did not even vote for? What the hell?

As a first step - replace the VP who is liked by nobody by someone who is liked by many. Replace someone who doesn't stand a slightest chance in 2024 by someone who could actually win. Election success is not b/c of Harris but despite.

Biden should continue in the office for another year, in my opinion.

Someone will have to run in 2024 and it'd better be a nationally known figure.

I do not pretend to know what will happen in two years. Biden is old and rather unpopular at the moment. But Trump is significantly more unpopular, and if he splits the Republican votes, the Republican nominee does not stand a chance anyway.

And why Newsom? That is a completely arbitrary pick. If Biden is not in good enough health and decides not to run, the Democrats will have a primary and choose their nominee.

Newsom didn't lose to Biden in 2016. He's relatively young, handsome and maybe even has some charisma. I don't know enough about his politics. Since he's from CA, I'd be highly suspicious. But genpop maybe OK with him.

Sure, dems can have normal primaries, too. However, as we still remember from 2016, primaries don't necessarily produce the most electable candidate.
