Поводом для opinion column in NYT стал безобразный инцидент в одной из школ NJ где мальчики индийского происхождения (где родились не сообщают) мало того что обозвали черных девочек ниггерами так ещё и обоссали.
Painter объясняет: Instead of asking what the boys’ reported racial identity tells us about the nature of the attack, we should see the boys as enacting American whiteness through anti-black assault in a very traditional way...race is something we perform, not just something we are in our blood or in the color of our skin. ... In the New Jersey incident, the heritage or skin color of the boys suspected of the assault doesn’t matter. What matters is that they were participating in this pattern and thus enacting whiteness in a very traditional way.

но в Германии я не жил. я жил в СССР, и там
нас воспитывали в духе интернационализма.

но в Германии я бы не считал себя истинным арийцем, скорее всего.
и в Америке, с вашего разрешения, я не буду себя считать
представителем большинства. пусть они там все "white" себе, rugged individuals,
и молодцы. а я нет. поэтому, когда ругают "whiteness"
мне как-то не обидно. даже наоборот, я часто согласен, что
они себе все заграбастали WASP'ы эти и не хотят делиться

да, вот так меня воспитали очень строго в СССР. если кто-то, например,
особенно подчеркивает свою "русскость" и тычет ей в нос
всяким нацменам. то это, безусловно, не очень привлекательный образ
