ny_quantПо NPR сказали, что с NPR выгнали ещё двух важных ведущих, у которых было 18 часов эфирного времени в неделю. У одного еврейская фамилия, у другого испанская. В качестве примера злодеяний испанца сказали, что назвал одну женщину bosomy. Хорошие у нас всё же времена. Ведь могли бы и бритвой по горлу.

In one example, as she was preparing for a segment about a cookbook, Lopate explained how the avocado got its name. She said he told her that it came from the Aztec word for “testicle,” and then he made what she considered a crude hand gesture, adding “you know, because of the shape and the bumpy skin." Lopate referred to this incident in an interview with the New York Times. The paper reported “he was incredulous that such a statement would have resulted in a complaint to superiors.” Speaking with WNYC News earlier this week, he denied making the hand gesture and using the graphic description. He said of the etymology, “it’s an interesting fact.”
В принципе, если упоминание тестикула делает тетку uncomfortable, то она - профессионально непригодна. Как журналист. Ибо как, например, она будет рассказывать о том, что сержанту Вилли оторвало тестикулы и надо бы скинуться ему на протез? Останется Вилли без протеза. Хотя она - по кулинарному делу... так это ещё хуже: останется Америка без рецепта бульона из бычьих яиц. И, подозреваю, спектр uncomfortability там значительно шире.

Date: 2017-12-22 10:00 pm (UTC)Никто не обязан знать до какой степени каждая чокнулась конкретная жертва и отчего имено ей будет так некомфортно, что она ещё долго не сможет кюшать.
История с авокадо вообще смехотворная, но и история с сиськами более интересная в том смысле, что это действительно inappropriate, но и там не было нужды делать из мухи слона.

Я вот uncomfortable от вида крови. Вполне могу deal with it и dealt with неоднократно. Но вот врачом мне нельзя. И даже инструменты подавать врачу - не нужно. И теткина чувствительность к образу тестикула не делает ее негодным человеком, но вот нужно ли ей именно в журналисты - по мне так нет.

Date: 2017-12-29 08:15 pm (UTC)Strange? Я не вижу тут ничего странного. Профессионально непригодная тетка попыталась выпереть с работы профессионально пригодного человека. Это не странно, это естественно. Вот что ей это удалось - это когда-то было странно.

"Когда часы бьют тринадцать раз это не значит, что тринадцатый удар был неправильным. Это рождает сомнения в правильности каждого из предшествующих ударов".
Это общий принцип и им абсолютно разумно руководствоваться. Но нам - в данном конкретном случае - ведь ничто не мешало посмотреть на каждый "удар" индивидуально, нет?
WNYC News has learned of four individuals who have complained to management about Lopate in 2017: two based on recent incidents, and two more that occurred years ago.

Два: In one incident, she said Lopate was conducting an interview about undocumented immigrant women brought to the U.S. and forced to perform sexual acts. At one point, she said he muted his microphone and said to the producers in the studio, "Sounds like how I treat my staff."
Три: In one instance in 2009, she said Lopate told her "'I didn't know you were so 'bosomy'" after he saw her wearing a dress.
Четыре. she recalled that, while crawling under his desk to plug in his computer, he said: "'Get off your knees or people will get the wrong idea.'"

1. Four people complaining is not a joke, whether or not he should be fired based on that. 2. How do you know there was nothing else?
