Another real life example.

My friend. Excellent programmer, I consider him my teacher. Family, two girls, house near NYC, nice job, wife never worked.

Suddenly out of the blue something happens to him: he became irritated and obsessive, sitting at the computer at nights, not sleeping for several days, lost his job and with it the insurance, couldn't get himself together to find another, stopped going to interviews couple of years ago. Money depleted, debt, house in foreclosure, etc.

He had a family history of depressions and schizophrenia, most likely this is the reason. Wife works but can't produce enough to support everybody.

Does he need help?

The point is that if you take the group of people who needs help and the group of people who are helped or eligible for help - these are different groups. It's possible to be in first but not in second. Which is sort of scary because life is unpredictable so one can't be sure he or she won't get into such predicament.

well, these people will always exist. those who need help but cannot quite get access. The important thing is to minimize this group, not to eliminate it. because the latter is not possible in ANY medical system.

The argument from the left is that such people won't exist with their socialist system. (At the cost of spending more than they can or gov control). But I see things the similar way you described, so I'd probably just agree here.

i am glad you agree. but the right and the left view of the delivery of medical care - those views are equally idiotic and lunatic. as are their other political views.

Arbat and Jerkov are twins separated at birth. with equally hateful demagogy and a total lack of knowledge of anything they speak of, with some rare exceptions in the case of the former.

extreme left and extreme right are to be avoided at al cost.

I disagree on both counts with the caveat that I don't know Arbat well. His most defining feature though is not intelligence or honesty (or lack thereof) but over the charts boredom.

that we are all guilty of. i could be writing grants or papers. it is easier pizdet' w LJ.

and.. with all due respect - no joke, i do respect you - i don't think much of you as a character judge. well i don't think much of myself, i am too hysterical aka passionate to be objective, but when i do calm down and sit down, i do pretty well. so they say. i mean i prove right in the end.

i achieve this in a shameful manner - by provoking people. i actually enjoy provoking a user until he or she shows who they are. and not who they seem to be. i admit, thisi bad behavior on my part. but enjoyable.

bored he is, and periodically very boring, too. but he has some intrinsic value. works well with is sources, he is not a "stas-googler", he weaves absolutely ridiculous notions ( "best doctor in america should be chinese, because... "), he uses demagogy in a way that would get him thrown out of a high school debate team, etc etc.

but what kind of a HUMAN he is - i do not try to judge. in LJ he is a bit of a partejgenosse and a bit of an ass. but he does not spill out much of him as a person. he is temperamental, unfair, does not like to be cornered, etc - but his persona is elusive. as opposed to your friend vibrio. but i stop here, it is not my task to make you love one of your twins more than teh other.

No I mean Яков. I know him very well and my opinion about him at this point is pretty much set. I know, you don't like him and he's a friend of гейша (whom I don't like either), but I am (excuse me) above it.

Arbat ... look, I couldn't finish most of his comments, so boring he is. Those that I did finish are typically an attempt to lure the opponent into some sort of logical trip. I hardly know anyone less interesting.

dear poor Arbat would be great as a divorce lawyer. why he chose to be a mediocre porgrammer, heck knows. or maybe he is an investor, i forget.
