По статье: Westen, Kilts, Blagov, Harenski, Hamann (2006). The Neural Basis of Motivated reasoning: An fMRI study if Emotional Constraints on Partisan Political Judgment ... Journal of Cognitive Neuroscience.
(Конкретно этой статьи в сети я не нашел, но есть несколько других, тех же авторов и с теми же выводами.)
Thirty men in the study, half Republican half Democrats. During an MRI scan, the subjects were asked to assess contradictory statements by both Bush and Kerry. The scans showed the the part of the brain associated with reasoning, the dorsolateral prefrontal cortex, was not involved in the assessing the statements. Conversely, the most active regions of the btrain were those involved in the processing emotions and maikng judgments about moral accountability.
Dr. Westen summarized:
None of the circuits involved in conscious reasoning were particularly engaged. Essentially appears as if partisans twirl the cognitive kaleidoscope until they get the conclusions they want, and then they get massively reinforced for it, with the elimination of negative emotional states and activation of positive ones... Everyone may reason to emotionally biased judgments when they have a vested interest in how to interpret "the facts".
Лично я никогда в этом не сомневался. Но как пиятно найти научное подтверждение своим предрассудкам.
