Оказалось, что жена попыталась заплатить этой кредиткой в такси и платеж не прошел. Тогда она использовала другую. Сегодня украли и её.

That's why God gave us Uber. I took a taxi recently after several years (because Lyft/Uber had a long wait and a cab was right there) and it turned into a disaster -- the guy's credit card reader was on his phone which had zero battery and could not be charged. I had some cash but not enough. I was nice enough to agree to go to ATM to withdraw more but all were closed. In the end I just gave him all my cash, but it took a long time and was quite stressful. Your story does not surprise me at all.

My conclusion is to have cash for such cases.

Having some cash is fine but I don't see any reason to take taxi over Uber. I have had a ton of bad experiences with taxis.

From airports, taxis often have standard prices. Uber can gouge prices if there is shortage, and they do.

Even inflated Uber/Lyft is still cheaper than taxi in my experience. And I almost never have bad experience with them unlike taxis. I've taken quite a few airport rides in the last few years.
