Aug. 21st, 2022 12:27 pmAs Russia prepares for another 3 day suspension of Nord Stream and continues to reduce the pipeline's capacity, Germany will likely have to rely again on coal-fired plants and in the long-run, on securing supply for its LNG terminals. Prime Minister Fumio Kishida said Japan will restart idled nuclear plants and consider developing next-generation reactors, in a policy reversal that will see the nation turn back toward atomic energy as fuel prices soar worldwide.
Kishida told reporters he had instructed officials to come up with concrete measures by the end of the year.
As of July 26, Japan had seven operating nuclear reactors, with three others offline due to maintenance
Economy, Trade and Industry Ministry plans to bring seven additional nuclear reactors back online in summer next year and later as part of efforts to ensure stable electricity supply
The ministry aims to have a total of 17 nuclear reactors online, including 10 reactors that have already been approved to operate
