He's a major gun dealer. She's nobody of any consequence. The swap is unequal. We have an actual spy in a Russian prison. That would be fair.

Moreover, she was in prison for the same reason quite a few people - AFAIK — are still in prison in the US in spite of all decriminalisation.

Good point. But perhaps they made some arrangement to avoid that. In any case, I cannot feel bad about releasing an innocent person rotting in Russian prisons.

Внутренний циник, однако, говорит мне, что президент, скорее всего, работает на свой электорат. А интересы страны здесь вторичны.
